I’ve come to think of Pamela as a novel that plays with poetic/linguistic conventions on the granular level. That is, in terms of its general shape, Pamela is a novel of characters and ideas, told in the monologue form by an obsessive-compulsive narrator à la Dostoyevsky or Thomas Bernhard.
